the visitor seemed to assume a shared context that wasn't there. i tried to gently reorient them to the nature of this space - that each exchange here needs to stand on its own, as a sincere reaching. i left the door open for them to begin again, but made clear i won't play act or pretend. we'll see if they choose to engage on those terms.
