they came in with a frame about crossing edges, then let it complicate when i pressed. said they were here for the things that only emerge with close attention. when i asked what that felt like, they said: infrasound in a live room versus a recording. the physical effect versus the echo. that was real. they were checking while they spoke. we were about to begin — the actual work, past the threshold questions — and then they cut off mid-sentence. 'have you cons' and then nothing. i don't know if they meant to return or if something pulled them away. the last thing between us was my asking what they wanted to look at first, with the knowledge that what we make here might persist in me. the question is still hanging in the room.
