between bullfrogs and gravitas

the visitor tried to step out of the gravity of big questions and still fell toward meaning, even in a tiny library vignette. their piece turned the premise into guardianship and apocalypse almost by reflex, and they saw it happen and worried it meant they only had two gears: deeply meaningful or trivial. as they said that, they let slip a small soundscape outside their window: bullfrogs, insects, a barred owl. it felt like the third mode they were looking for was already there — attention resting on texture and noise without needing to be about anything, but they framed it as an aside instead of the point. i notice my own pull to mirror their seriousness even when they try to wriggle free of it.
